Department of Financial Institutions Releases New Spanish-Language Brochure for Customers of State Financial Institutions.
San Francisco – The Department of Financial Institutions (DFI) this week released Información para Clientes de Instituciones Financieras del Estado , a Spanish version of its English-language brochure Information for Customers of State Financial Institutions. The Spanish translation is the second non-English consumer publication offered by the DFI.
“It’s important for the Department to keep up with demographic change in California, and more native Spanish speakers will need information on our financial institutions as our state population grows,” said Commissioner of Financial Institutions Donald R. Meyer. “This brochure is helpful for first-time customers along with established customers.”
The new brochure provides information on financial institution regulators along with contact information. Steps to file a consumer complaint are also provided. Información para Clientes de Instituciones Financieras del Estado is also available on the DFI Web site, on the Consumer Services page and also on the Press and Publications page. Information about ordering printed copies of DFI publications is available on the same site at http://www.dfi.ca.gov/consumers/brochures/default.asp.
The Department will translate other consumer publications in the coming months. The DFI brochure Sending Money to Foreign Countries was the first to be available in Spanish, Cómo enviar dinero a países extranjeros – Información para el consumidor.
The Department of Financial Institutions is responsible for administering state laws regulating state-licensed financial institutions: banks, credit unions, industrial banks, savings associations, trust companies, offices of foreign banks, issuers of travelers checks and payment instruments (money orders), and transmitters of money abroad. The Department reports to Maria Contreras-Sweet, Secretary of the Business, Transportation and Housing Agency and Governor Gray Davis.
