Liberty Star Credit Union, at libertystarcu.com, should not be confused with California-licensed Star One Credit Union
The Department of Business Oversight (DBO) has been notified of a website, LibertyStarCU.com, that closely resembles a website belonging to a licensed credit union, Star One Credit Union, starone.org. Libertystarcu.com claims to be operated by Liberty Star Credit Union, which is not a licensed credit union. The website also shows six Liberty Star branches in the San Jose area and includes a map identical to one on Star One Credit Union’s website. Star One Credit Union is licensed to operate in California. The libertystarcu.com site lists a New York area code and an ABA/Routing Number.
The DBO urges consumers to exercise extreme caution before responding to any solicitation promoting loans or other offers from Liberty Star Credit Union. To check whether a California bank, credit union, or other financial service provider is licensed in California, or to file a complaint, consumers should go to the DBO website at www.dbo.ca.gov or call 1-866-275-2677.
