How We Help Consumers
Consumer protection is the foundation of DFPI’s mission, vision and purpose. In addition to regulation and rule enforcement, DFPI helps Californians by providing the tools and information to help them improve their financial outlook. This includes, but is not limited to:
- A dedicated Consumers page, including resources to help people better understand their rights and make well-informed financial decisions, submit a complaint, verify licensed service providers, search enforcement records, and more.
- Our Consumer Connection Newsletter, which has tips and tricks on building credit and generational wealth, how to manage student loans, and more, as well as our monthly consumer financial education events and other timely updates from DFPI.
- Formal reports and publications in conjunction with other state agencies.
- Market monitoring and research to ensure we are adapting our oversight and outreach to the current needs of all Californians.
We also publish Consumer Alerts, where Californians can learn about website scams, impersonations and other fraudulent financial-related communications and avoid becoming victims of financial predators.
