The California Department of Financial Protection and Innovation (DFPI) has received reports of scammers claiming to be from “CDFI,” using deceptive email addresses such as [email protected] and [email protected].
One of the scam email addresses, [email protected], closely mimics a legitimate DFPI email ([email protected]) to trick consumers. These imposters are targeting individuals with fraudulent offers related to crypto mining and investments, demanding upfront fees.
This scam is not affiliated with the DFPI. Consumers should be extremely cautious when responding to unsolicited offers involving financial or investment services – especially if the sender requests upfront payments or sensitive personal information. To verify whether a financial or investment service provider is licensed in California, or to submit a complaint, please visit the DFPI website at dfpi.ca.gov or call (866) 275-2677.
