Disaster Relief Resources
The Department of Financial Protection and Innovation offers resources here to help victims of natural disasters get started on recovery – from requesting mortgage forbearance or student loan deferments, to steering clear of those who would take advantage of victims. We also offer tips on preparing for such disasters.
Getting Started:
- Determine if your location has been designated a disaster area by visiting FEMA’s website.
- If your home has been damaged or destroyed in a natural disaster, consult our Assistance for Homeowners Affected by Natural Disasters guide – English (PDF) | Spanish (PDF) .
- If you a have a student loan, you may be eligible to defer your payments. Check out the US Department of Education’s guide for students impacted by a natural disaster webpage.
- Check our Upcoming Events calendar for informational seminars near you offering localized information on assistance with disaster relief.
- IMPORTANT: Be wary of scams offering financial assistance, seeking your personal information or requiring upfront payments for services. Make sure you are talking to legitimate service providers! Use and share the Department of Consumer Affair’s After a disaster, Don’t Get Scammed (PDF) brochure.
