Internship Opportunities with the DFPI
The Human Resources Office has established a Volunteer Internship Program (VIP) to assist individuals in fulfilling their career development goals. The VIP is open to college students, graduate-level students, recent graduates, and non-student career professionals. It is designed for students and professionals of all majors and backgrounds who have an interest in the DFPI. The volunteer internship is an unpaid opportunity.
A volunteer internship is a way to gain up to 16 weeks of on-the-job training while performing meaningful service for the DFPI. It is an excellent way to access various fields, become familiar with work environments, acquire work-related references, and increase marketability for future employment.
Volunteer internships are offered on a continuous basis with placement availability determined by the needs of the DFPI. Internship placements are matched to align with the intern’s academic and professional goals.

Veterans’ Preference
Veterans’ Preference can be applied to a veteran’s eligibility for qualifying open and non-promotional examinations.
To determine if the exam being administered qualifies for Veterans’ Preference, please review the examination bulletin. Veterans’ Preference will be awarded as follows:
Any veteran, widow or widower of a veteran, or spouse of a 100 percent disabled veteran, who achieves a passing score in an entrance examination, shall be ranked in the top rank of the resulting eligibility list. Any veteran who has been dishonorably discharged or released is not eligible for Veterans’ Preference.
An entrance examination is defined, under the law, as any open competitive examination.
Veterans’ Preference is not granted once a person achieves permanent civil service status.
