Photo of KC MoheniKhalil “KC” Mohseni is Commissioner of the California Department of Financial Protection & Innovation (DFPI), the State’s financial regulator. Commissioner Mohseni was appointed by Governor Gavin Newsom on February 7, 2025, and served as DFPI’s Chief Deputy Commissioner since November 2023.

Prior to joining DFPI, Commissioner Mohseni was the Chief Operating Officer at the State Controller’s Office from 2022 to 2023. He was the Deputy Director of Administration at the California Department of Housing and Community Development from 2020 to 2022. Commissioner Mohseni was a Project Director for the California Homeless Data Integration System at the Business, Consumer Services, and Housing Agency from 2018 to 2019. He was the Chief Fiscal Officer at the Board of State and Community Corrections from 2015 to 2018, where he oversaw the implementation of the Financial Information System for California.

Commissioner Mohseni earned a Juris Doctor degree from the University of California, Davis School of Law, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of California, Irvine.

As the DFPI’s Commissioner, he is committed to the Department’s mission to protect consumers and foster trust and innovation in the financial marketplace.
