Welcome and thank you for visiting the DFPI’s 2022 Financial Literacy Resource Fair web page! Our goal is to share resources and raise awareness about the importance of financial education and resources, especially now with the many economic uncertainties caused by COVID-19, inflation, and global instability. We want Californians to remain healthy – both physically and financially during these uncertain times.
This year, we are hosting our annual resource fair virtually, on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, which includes a roundtable discussion regarding avoiding financial fraud and scams, while highlighting a few of the many vendors that promote financial empowerment and security. California State Controller’s Office – Unclaimed Property California’s Unclaimed Property Law requires banks, insurance companies, corporations, and certain other entities to report and submit their customers’ property to the State Controller’s Office when there has been no activity for a period of time (generally three years). CalSavers CalSavers is California’s retirement savings program designed for the millions of Californians who don’t have a way to save for retirement at their job. State law now requires all businesses with five or more employees to facilitate CalSavers if they do not sponsor a retirement plan. Deadlines for employers to comply vary based on the size of the business. The registration deadlines for eligible employers with more than 50 employees have passed. The next deadline, for employers with five or more employees, is June 30, 2022. For savers, CalSavers is a completely voluntary workplace IRA program designed to be simple and portable from job to job. Operating at no taxpayer expense, CalSavers is professionally managed by private sector financial firms with oversight from a transparent public board chaired by the State Treasurer. CalSavers enables employers to provide their employees with access to a payroll deduction Individual Retirement Account (IRA) with no employer fees or fiduciary responsibility.
