Examiner Awarded by Education Foundation of State Bank Supervisors
Acting Commissioner, Jan Lynn Owen is pleased to announce that Scott Harris has received the Examiner Advanced Training Award and Samuel E. Weinrott Memorial Scholarship awarded by the Education Foundation of State Bank Supervisors. Mr. Harris is a Senior Financial Institutions Examiner in our Sacramento office. He has been with the Department since 1984.
The Examiner Advanced Training Award and Samuel E. Weinrott Memorial Scholarship is a program authorized by the Board of Directors of the Conference of State Bank Supervisors (CSBS) in 1972 to recognize and reward outstanding examiners. The program encourages and assists qualified examiners by preparing them for positions of greater responsibility. It broadens their understanding of banking or trust operations by exposing them to the complex and rapidly changing issues facing the industry.
The Award and Scholarship program provides examiners with the opportunity to attend one of seven graduate banking schools or one of two graduate trust schools. Candidates for the Award and Scholarship are asked to complete a nomination form which includes an essay on one of several topics of current relevance to the banking industry. Mr. Harris completed his nomination without assistance from anyone in the Department. The form was submitted to the Education Foundation of State Bank Supervisors and was judged by a panel on content, composition, and writing skills. Mr. Harris was selected from a group of nominees from throughout the country to receive the Award and Scholarship.
Throughout his career with the Department, Mr. Harris has demonstrated his abilities in all areas of examination and his willingness to accept challenging assignments to further his development.
The Department is very proud of Mr. Harris’ accomplishment and wishes him success in completing the graduate banking school program he chooses to attend. At this time Mr. Harris has not made a decision on which program he will be attending, but has indicated that he has narrowed the choices to Pacific Coast Banking School (PCBS) in Seattle, Washington or Colorado School of Banking in Boulder, Colorado.
